Go to Fast Facts for some quick information on SMYL.

Our mission is to advocate on behalf of the community, focusing on people in need, and to develop and
deliver socially just programs and services.

Our vision is to improve the overall welfare of the community by providing appropriate social services,
education, employment and training.

SMYL Community Services or South Metropolitan Youth Link as it was known then, first commenced operations
20 years ago in a small office in
Fremantle with just two staff members managing a handful of youth programs.
From such humble origins SMYL has grown to become one of WA’s largest, not-for-profit organisations and
training providers in the State, with completion and job placement rates for our disadvantaged
clients among the highest achieved by any community organisation in the country.
Today SMYL comprises of three main sections providing services to the community, Community Services,
Training Services, and Group Training Services. SMYL has been a Registered Training Organisation (RTO)
since 1997 and is endorsed under the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF), the latest in a series
of quality accreditations.
SMYL offers a wide range of employment and training services to all members of the
community, especially young people and the unemployed, through out WA. We work extensively with
community groups, schools, and the State and Federal government to ensure that our programmes maintain the
highest standard and relevance for our clients.
As an organisation, we are constantly evolving. Programs come and go in accordance with the priorities
of the government of the day and the changing needs of business and industry. However, there is one
constant in our operations and that is our integrity and our morality. These values dictate everything we
do.
While SMYL may bear little resemblance to the organisation it once was, we have not lost sight of our
reason for being. We are a community organisation first and foremost, and our commitment to the
young and the unemployed remains steadfast.
