Building & Construction Courses
Certificate II Building & Construction (General Construction)
The course is delivered in a manner that allows students to work and study at the same time, putting the theories they learn into practice in their workplace as they undergo training.
A General Construction (Level 2) trainee is involved in learning to assist trades people on building and construction sites by doing a range of unskilled and semi-skilled manual labouring jobs.
As a Construction Worker, you must be able to:
- Unload, carry and stack building materials and place tools and equipment in position
- Dig trenches so that footings and services can be laid, using hand tools and jackhammers if necessary to break up rock and concrete
- Place and compact filling and quarry materials
- Help to erect and dismantle scaffolding (subject to certification in some states), ramps, catwalks, barricades and warning lights
- Mix, pour and spread concrete
- Use wheelbarrows to remove rubble and rubbish from building sites
- Clean surfaces for painters
