SMYL Community Services has provided, education, employment, training and community services to employers, jobseekers and the community since 1983.
SMYL has:
- Delivered over 1 000 000 student contact training hours.
- Delivered career guidance to more than 10,000 people.
- Placed more than 5000 people into employment.
- Assisted more than 5000 people into education and further training.
- Employed more than 3000 trainees and apprentices.
- Been the Registered Training Organisation for more than 2000 trainees and apprentices.
- Delivered 100 000 training hours to Indigenous people in remote & isolated communities.
- Contacted and assisted more than 30 000 school students.
- Managed school based traineeships for more than 1200 trainees.
Some of SMYL’s Achievements over the last 20 years:
Piloted:
- School Based Traineeships in Western Australia.
- Pioneered Plant Operator Traineeshiops.
- Aboriginal School Based Traineeships.
- Innovative building and construction projects in the Kimberley for indigenous communities.
- FAST TRACK—the first nationally accredited competency based program incorporating Finn and Meyer competencies. FAST TRACK was the pre cursor to the current VET in Schools agenda.
- Developments in partnership with Murdoch University, the indigenous Catholic Education stream that is now delivered as part of the general curriculum in all Catholic schools.
Other Achievements:
- Winner of 2007 - Access & Equity Award.
- Finalist of 2007 "Innovation" National Award Training.
- Implemented and developed the first Youth Work Traineeship in WA.
- Achieved 90% successful outcomes in School Based Engineering Traineeships.
- Initiated Apprenticeship employment for people with disabilities.
- Introduced new Traineeships to WA - Customs Broking, Childcare and Youth Work.
- First employer and RTO in Western Australia to implement the Personal Carer Traineeship in the health industry.
