Who has to hold a Recreational Skipper's Ticket?

The person in charge of a vessel with a motor greater than 4.5 kilowatts (6HP) (RST Vessel) must hold a Recreational Skipper's Ticket.
A person aged between 14 and 16 cannot be in charge of an RST vessel unless they hold an RST. Age restrictions also apply to this age group - vessels may be operated only between daylight hours and at a maximum speed of 8 knots.
If your between 14 and 25 you must obtain an RST before April 2007.
Over 25s will have until April 2008 before they are required to hold an RST.

Duration of the course:

The duration of the course will be dependant on course options (see over the page).

If you participate in the full course this will involve 2 evenings covering theory training and assessment on Tuesdays and Thursdays respectively, followed by 4 hours of practical training and assessment during the following Saturday morning or afternoon.

If you have a group of 10 or more SMYL may be able accommodate times to suit you.

Course and Fee Options:

Full Course: $210 (4 hours of Theory Training and Assessment plus 4 hours practical training and assessment in the training vessel)
Theory Training Only: $45 (3 hours of theory training – 100 page Recreational Skippers Ticket Workbook supplied to trainees upon registration and payment of fees)
Theory Assessment Only: $45 (If a trainee needs to resit the theory assessment an additional fee of $45 will be payable each time they resit the assessment)
Practical Training Only: $60 (3 hours with a group of trainees practicing the 11 practical tasks required in assessment)
Practical Assessment Only: $60 (If a trainee needs to resit the practical assessment an additional fee of $60 will be payable each time they resit the assessment)
Prior Qualifications Application (Skills Recognition): $20 (For applicants seeking to have other qualifications considered by the Department for Planning and Infrastructure)
